The Adolescent Challenge Program is facilitated by an adventure-based counselor and a licensed professional counselor, who work together to provide mental and physical safety for all participants during treatment groups and adventure outings. We are a partnership between The Council for Prevention and Behavioral Health Services North-Center for Recovery and funded by NYS OASAS.
The Adolescent Challenge Program is a combination of prevention and treatment services for youth, ages 13-18 from Warren, Washington, and Saratoga Counties, who have been diagnosed with substance use disorder. During the four-month program cycle, teens will attend weekly group sessions, regular individual treatment with a professional counselor, and enriching outings that vary in length, activity, and challenge. Our program is intentionally designed to use adventure experiences to foster social emotional learning and reflection, which help to overcome substance misuse, addiction, and behavioral changes. We inspire goal setting related to substance use and address challenges in life at home, school, work, and in relationships. Upon completion of the Adolescent Challenge Program, teens will work closely with their professional counselor to design an aftercare plan that meets their individual treatment and recovery needs.

Teens may self-refer, or be referred by family, schools, counselors, primary care providers, probation departments, and other community agencies. Once referred, teens will work with the Adolescent Challenge Program professional counselor to complete a biopsychosocial assessment. If the assessment determines that the Adolescent Challenge Program is suitable for a teen, their counselor will work with family to learn more about the program and decide together if it will be the best course of treatment. If a teen is not best suited for the Adolescent Challenge Program, the professional counselor will work with family to understand other local treatment options.
