At the Council for Prevention it is our mission to provide mental health and suicide prevention training to the community. We offer suicide prevention community development, gatekeeper trainings, seminars, and workshops with fully developed curriculum. LOSS TEAM

The mission of a Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Team is to reduce suicide bereavement distress of those immediately impacted. By providing compassion, support, and resources that are available this allows for the promotion of hope for the newly bereaved, which begins the healing process.

WHAT IS A LOSS TEAM?

LOSS Team is made up of mental health professionals and volunteers with lived experience of having someone close to them die by suicide.

All Volunteers have been through training to help them to provide resources and interact with families who have experiences a loss to suicide.

The LOSS Team is starting as a delayed response team. We will meet in person or virtually with those in need.

We provide survivor of suicide loss packet.

We provide follow up and support.

It’s Real: Teens and Mental Health

Recommended for 8th through 12th grade

 

It’s Real: Teens and Mental Health is a 45-minute program, which provides young people with mental health education and resources.The presentation includes brief video narratives featuring well-known GenZ influencers sharing their own experiences with mental health, and what they found helpful at the time. Target Audience: Teens between the ages of 14 and 18. This program is directed to be presented to high school classes or community settings with groups of comparably aged adolescents. ONE TIME PRESENTATION 8th through 12th.

The presentation covers such topics as:

  • What is mental health? How is it similar to, or different from, physical health?
  • How to notice signs of someone needing help
  • Tips and strategies for having a caring conversation with someone you might be worried about
  • Methods of self-care for mind, body, soul, and surroundings
  • Examples of trustworthy resources
  • How reaching out to trusted adults can help teens manage their mental health

Teen Mental
Health First Aid

Recommended for 10th through 12th grade

 

Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) teaches high school students how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health or substance-use issues in their friends and peers. tMHFA aids in equipping young people with the knowledge and skills they need to foster their own wellness and to support each other. This program is intended for ages 15 to 20. tMHFA is provided by two trainers from the Council for Prevention over 3 sessions per group for 90 minutes each session OR 6 sessions per group for 45 minutes each session. Workbooks are provided for students to utilize and take home at the end of the course along with certificates for participation or completion of the program. MULTIPLE SESSION 10th through 12th.

Gizmo’s Pawesome Guide to Mental Health

Recommended for Pre-K through 3rd Grade

 

Gizmo’s Pawesome Guide to Mental Health© is more than just a fun book. When the book is combined with completion of the Mental Health Plan, it becomes a tool used to teach youth. Each student will receive a book to go home with them with their completed mental health plan inside. ONE TIME PRESENTATION. BEST FOR Ages 4 to 6.

  • What does this Read Aloud teach?
  • What “mental health” means
  • That mental health is just as important as physical health
  • Daily activities, and coping strategies that youth can use to improve and support their mental health and wellness.
  • How to know when their mental health needs attention
  • How to identify and connect with their Trusted Adults and
  • Provides resources that youth’s Trusted Adults can use when more help is needed
